Tom, Jan's brother, brought 8mm film clips of Jan's early childhood and some of her later years. We watched reel one this evening. Jan was a cute little girl with curly blonde hair, running around in starched white and pink 1950's dresses and misfitted swimsuits, cavorting with her brothers, spending fun time at the family's summer lake retreat and enjoying the rewards of a "tomboy" Christmas. One year, at a very young age, her most prized Christmas gifts were a cowboy hat and a gun and holster set. And it was also revealed that one of her favorite summer pasttimes was riding the horses at the lake vacation site. She was even a closet astronomer for awhile, after receiving a telescope one snowy Christmas day.
Ah, the joys of a happy childhood remembered with affection and gratitude.

Some nausea and vomiting later in the evening, but we think we responded quickly enough with the antidotal medication to manage this episode and prevent recurring ones.

Generally the day was shaped by the sharing of positive experiences and the blessings of a wonderful "Remembrance of things past".

You must have a responsible brother to still have 8mm home movies! (My brother doesn't know what happened to ours.) A tomboy Christmas sounds divine. I got a clear mental picture of that moment :) I was a "closet" tomboy and loved my Dick Tracy lunch box! Sounds like a good overall day remembering childhood moments.

Hi Jan, It's Lauren Ellis. Sounds like you had a heart warming day of reflection. There is something to be said for those precious past memories, especially when you can share them with your family. I can so picture those uncomfortable starched dresses that we wore as kids. Oh well, at least we looked cute. Anyway, hope you have a good day and I will continue to pray for all of you.
    Love, Lauren
